# CCSS Services - Managing Periods of Emergency

This article will assist you with managing periods of emergency for your CCS Services.

### What constitutes a period of emergency?

Help is available for families and early childhood education and care services in the event of an emergency, like bushfires, storms, or floods. 
Support includes 
* gap fee waivers
* extra absences
* support for service closures

||| Note: Please refer to communications from the Australian Government Department of Education for directions regarding your specific event.

### Managing the GAP Discount in Xap

If you have been approved by CCSS to discount the GAP, this can be managed within Xap.

1. Create a GAP Discounts for your Service see: [Gap Discount - Emergency Closures](https://help.xap.rocks/en/article/gap-discounts-emergency-closures-1dnie9h/?bust=1763504919092)
2. Apply the Discounts to the required child/ren see: [Emergency GAP Fee Waivers](https://help.xap.rocks/en/article/gap-discounts-emergency-closures-1dnie9h/?bust=1763504919092)
3. Mark the attendances for the period of emergency as absent. see: [Marking absences in bulk](https://help.xap.rocks/en/article/how-to-mark-children-absent-in-bulk-rfvngp/?bust=1702533963750)
4. Depending on the period of emergency and advise from Australian Government Department of Education you may need to submit a notifiable event. see: [CCSS - Notifiable Events](https://help.xap.rocks/en/article/ccss-notifiable-events-v28wtv/?bust=1702534442625), and [Emergency Service Closures](/en/article/emergency-service-closures-5fnjrd/)

6. Add in Public Holidays for the closure dates to still allow you to claim for the closure dates see: [Public Holidays & Exceptions](/en/article/qld-kindy-for-all-2024-managing-public-holidays-student-free-days-rc2udk/)
|| Note: QLD Kindergartens will also need to ensure the closure dates are noted as a Public Holiday to allow you to claim the QLD Kindy funding during the closure periods.
