# SMS - Sending an SMS

### SMS - Sending an SMS

Communicating with your families is now even easier with SMS in Xap. SMS allows you to quickly update families about service events, urgent situations, or general reminders. 

Because most families are more likely to read a text message than an email, your communication becomes faster, clearer, and more convenient for everyone.

### To send an SMS to a Family:

1. Select the Bookings & Attendances screen
2. Select the Bookings Tab

3. Apply **Filters** e.g. Rooms, Dates etc.
4. 2 options for selecting recipients
**a) Sending to specific child/ren**
* If you only need to send an SMS to selected child/ren, use the Select option to choose the relevant records before sending.
**b)** **Sending to all recipients in a booking filter**
* If you want to send an SMS to everyone within the current booking filter, do not use the Select option. Instead, go directly to Bulk Actions → Send SMS.
| Note: Xap will automatically attempt to de-duplicate recipients, ensuring that only one SMS per Centre/Guardian combination is sent where possible. Duplicates are possible if the selected bookings belong to Family1 and Family2, and the same guardian is associated with both families. In this scenario, they will receive the same SMS twice - once for each family.
5. Select **Bulk Action**
6. Select **Send SMS** from the drop-down menu

7. Select **who** to send the SMS to (Primary Guardians, Secondary Guardians or Nominees)
8. Add in the **SMS message**
9. Select **Send**
