QLD Kindy for All - CCS Services Calculations

QLD Free Kindergarten - CCS Services calculations

15 hours of free kindy

Kindy is:

  • 15 hours per week
  • 40 weeks per year

Kindergarten is delivered in different ways at different services. For some services, 15 hours of free kindy might be delivered over two or three days, with additional care paid for separately. If a child attends kindy in a long day care setting, additional care may be covered in part by the Australian Government Child Care Subsidy.

Scenarios

Xander is 3 years old and is turning 4 in March 2026. Xander currently attends a 10 Hour Session, 3 days per week and is receiving 72% Child Care Subsidy.

Weekly GAP (out of pocket) is $162.42 (Parent GAP $54.14 x 3 days) for 30 hours of care.

In 2025 Xander will be opting-in to the QLD Free for all Kindergarten Program where he will have access to the 15 Hours per week Free

Xander will continue to attend 3 days per week, however the GAP (weekly out of pocked cost) will be reduced to include the subsidised 15 hours of Kindergarten.

Days

GAP

2 x days with 15hrs free kindy (2 x $13.54)

= $27.08

1 x day (1 x $54.14)

$54.14

Therefore the weekly out of pocket cost for Johnny’s parents will drop to $81.21 per weekfor 30 hours of care. That’s an out of pocket savings of $81.21 per week thanks to the Queensland Governments Free Kindy!

What happens for days not covered by the Free Kindy?

Answer: During the period where the government-free kindergarten does not apply, your standard CCS hrs & CCS % will reduce GAP (out-of-pocket expense) as per normal.

Scenario 2

John Smith attends care 5 days per week.

Total Daily Fee = $140.00

Session hours = 12hrs per day

CCS hours = 100hrs

Kindy program = 7.5hrs
