How to Create an Observation?


Observations capture learning moments to help educators better understand a child's interests, abilities, skills. The following document will walk you through the steps you need to create an observation on Xap.


** Step 1: ** Select the journey module from the left-hand side menu.



** Step 2: ** Go to the observations tab and select the + sign to add an observation.



** Step 3: ** In the enter general details page, you can select what type of observation have you made i.e., planned, spontaneous or flexible.


You will then need to enter the following details:

  1. The program.
  2. Learning environment.
  3. Observation date.
  4. Observation style.
  5. Experience.
  6. Title of observation.
  7. The framework.


Once you have entered the details, click next.



**Step 4: ** From the select children page, select the relevant children (you can also select all the children if the observation applies to all).


Please wait for the list of children to load as this may take time.


Once you have selected the children, click next.



** Step 5: ** In the add photos and videos page, you can add pictures and videos of the observations made or you can skip this step.

To add photos or videos, press the + add option.



Once a photo/video is uploaded, it can be deleted by clicking the X in the top right-hand corner of the image/video.



Once the photo/video has been uploaded, select next.



Step 6: You can add further details to your observation in the enter other details page. You can drag and drop content boxes and write your observations. Make sure you complete all the sections.



Once done, select review.



**Step 7: ** Review the observation. You can either save as draft to revisit later or publish the observation. You can also select the observation visibility - only to staff or as a group post.
